For commissioned works I take in the space with its color and design. I take in how it relates to the space and the architecture.
It’s all about space. When I design a window I walk into a home and I look at the window and I look at the space around it. In my mind I design something that feeds upon the lines of the architecture, the lines of the walls, the lines of the ceiling, the lines of the door. Everything that is vertical and horizontal. Everything relates to one another, feeds off one another. It’s kind of like music- up, down, the high notes, the low notes.

Many of the modern contemporary glass windows that I produce are musically inspired. The colors, lines, the shapes, connect to one another in a dialogue that give it style, beauty, and a visual rhythm.
There is a balance that I create between the architecture, the light, the sensations, and the feeling that you get. It is an experience that connects with the sense of space.

The art pieces I connect within themselves. We have a frame, and then we have the glass within. It’s the way one glass connects to another glass, the color is enhanced by another color, the lead runs into another piece of lead. Thick, thin, curved, straight. They all work together. There is a balance that happens with the light, the color, the size of the lead, and its direction.
It is very much an interrelationship. It is how the viewer connects to the light and color within their own soul.

There is a spiritual inspiration. The piece is brought to life by the light itself.

The light is an ephemeral thing and this is what gives the glass life, much as we are what gives life to the building. It is a powerful relationship to our experience and everything passing through that building. The things that give the building life are not as obvious but the structure is what supports it.
